Hilary & Stephen Collins have been designing and constructing gardens in Northern England and the West Midlands since 1980. We both qualified in 1984 with Honours Degrees in Horticulture from the University of Bath, with a broad range of experiences in Fruit, Hardy Nursery Stock (Trees and Shrubs!) Glasshouse Crops, Turf Management, Horticultural Research and Landscape Design. In 1984, we became members of the Institute of Horticulture and in 1999 joined the Association of Professional Landscapers.

Alongside the Garden Design & Build Company which designs and installs small, medium and large projects for commercial and private Clients; we have been running a production Nursery at Madresfield since 1986, a family business, which supplies a great deal of plant material for our Clients’ gardens.

We also offer a comprehensive garden maintenance service, from once a year clean sweep up to monthly or weekly visit by qualified Horticulturists, through our maintenance company.

In 1997, we worked on the Landscaping Element for the Carlton Television Production Noah’s Ark with Anton Rogers and from January until July 2001 we were working with Granada Television on a Garden Programme for ‘This Morning with Richard and Judy’ - interesting work, but very long hours: filming sometimes continued until 10 p.m. This was followed in August by an offer of work from the BBC, but we were unable to accept to due a heavy work load: rather disappointing really, because 4 weeks on the Isle of Wight in September would have been very pleasant !

We have also taken part in a number of community based projects over the years; the most recent of which is a garden sponsored by BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester for the new Worcester Hospital.

The garden is called the Listeners' Jubilee Garden and is overlooked by the Leukaemia day wards. The brief was very exacting and the site horticulturally demanding, but the project has been very rewarding with so many people using and enjoying the garden since its installation in May 2002.

We have won three Silver Medals for entries at the Malvern Three Counties Spring Garden Show and an award for 2003 Malvern Show - Garden Design Challenge and a Silver Medal for 'The Jungle Book'..

Previous Clients have included Eddie Braben (Script Writer for Morecambe and Wise) and the internationally acclaimed author Bernhard Connolly.

To assist with the building and installing of Gardens, we have our own qualified construction Team and we also work with a number of Professionals (Surveyors, Civil and Building Engineers) within the construction industry and they are called upon to provide additional expertise, as and when required.
